Miralces

It's Touhy, long time follower of the blog, first time poster...

Do you believe in miralces, and if so what is your definition of a miracle? Does a miracle have to be as spectacular as Jesus turning a few loaves of bread into thousands, or can it be something more simple, subtle?

PS- Clare would spend money to watch him walk on water-- or other things

  1. I do believe in miracles because it is something that happens to people if they are willing to have faith. My definition of a miracle is an extraordinary occurrence that one can experience through the power of faith. Jesus preformed many miracles in his time such as turning water into wine and others, which is one reason we have faith in Jesus. Many people have different viewpoints as to what a miracle is; there are many phenomenon experiences that many people can consider a miracle, while other may not. A miracle can not merely be something simple not subtle, it is more than just that. Miracles go beyond the normal and simple, they are extreme incidents that can change people’s lives. In my life there have been miracles that my family has experienced. They were occurrences that have allowed my faith to become stronger. Miracles really do happen if you believe and have faith in God and in yourself as well.

  2. To me, miracles are works of God. Our faith is renewed and deepened through miracles. I think miracles happen all the time, it's just depends how much we believe to recognize it as a miracle. However, I think miracles can be both subtle and spectacular. A miracle doesn't have to be this huge realization, it's just something that God gives to us. Whether it be a good test score, a birth, or survival from a disease or natural disaster, a miracle comes in different ways. The miracles Jesus performed help to define who he was. They were spectacular, but he also performed subtle miracles too. It's hard to believe in something without seeing, so miracles are a way for God to let us know he is there. Big or small, miracles happen everyday.

  4. I think that a miracle is a situation on where god's hands are involved. I do believe that miracles do happen.I think they happen in small situations. I also think that they can happen in big situations. The similarity between big and small miracles is that they will change or affect someones lives. I think, for example, that the the plane crash that happened a couple months ago with no one even getting injured was a huge miracle. For some people this would not be considered a miracle they might consider it luck and that if it happened it would be towards the worse. For me I have encountered many miracles. These miracles have strengthened my relationship with god. I think that miracles happen all the time around you, all you have to do to see it is to have faith in it.

  5. I describe a miracle as an action that you need to happen but have no means to make happen but still it does. Miracles come in all different sizes,it doesn't have to be a huge deal I believe it is just something that makes your relationship and belief in God stronger. God blesses us with miracles so we are able to understand his true power and through his miracles form and deeper faith in him in our lives.

  6. I do believe in miracles. They could be as large as someone surviving a terminal illness or as small as the sun rising. It all depends how you look at it. I would describe miracles as awe inspiring unexplained events.

  7. Miracles to me are not walking on water (although I would pay to see that too) but the little things in life that are brought to us by God. When we are put in tough situations I truly believe that God in some way brings us a small miracle, in a person or thing. Miracles are different for everyone. For me, it is something God graces you with, usually somehting that makes me smile! Miracles are the people or things that come to you when you are least expecting it.

  8. I do believe in miracles. I think that a miracle occurs when there is no hope and a positive outcome with no scientific explanation. Miracles can be as drastic as a person surviving something that they shouldn't have or just a small occurence that might happen if everyday life.

  9. I believe in miracles. If we don't then what do we have to hope for. I think that can be little and big, it just depends on your own opinions. For example, there was this time I was driving home on the highway from something. I was in my lane ready to exit and there was this car who was on my left trying to do a last minute lane change to get off at the exit. There was nowhere I could go because it was bad traffic and i could tell that he did not see me. I laid on my horn and swerved as much as I could on the shoulder but there was a rail. I think I was honestly within a foot of being in a huge wreck. I think that is a miracle because it made me think that there was a good chance that I would have been greatly injured if that had happened. I feel that miracles are God's way of telling us that we need to change something that we are doing in our lives and reminding us that He is there even when we forget.

  10. I do believe in miracles, especially small ones that happen everyday. I believe that miracles can have a big impact on our lives if we take the miracle and learn from the experience in order to better ourselves. Sometimes I feel like miracles go unseen because people do not stop to think about how miraculous an event can be. However, I agree with Kelly that a miracle can be “both subtle and spectacular.” I think that miracles can be in both the large and small spectrums. However, I do believe that people who are grateful for the miracle end up becoming closer with God afterwards. I think it would be hard not to believe in some form of God if you were to experience a miracle. Miracles can be seen in happy events such as having a baby or recovering from an illness.

  11. I most definitely believe in miracles. I dont believe that something extreme needs to have taken place for it to be classified as a miracle. So many unexplainable things happen every single day. Thats probably how I found my definition of a miracle... When I finally stopped looking for all the answers and realized that with faith so many things are possible (even if they don't make sense) I was able to open my eyes to the miracles that were constantly happening around me. It can be big things, like someone defying all medical odds and surviving a disease or injury. Or it could be something little like unexpectedly rekindling an old friendship, or bumping into someone you haven't seen in a while. Miracles are happening all the time.

  12. To determine whether miracles occur, I think we have to define what a miracle is. In reading other responses to this question, I see answers like "works of god" or simply "small things that you don't expect". I tend to err of the side of the former, believing that miracles are a profound happening like Touhy's lovely picture. Merriam-Webster defines it as "an extraordinary event manifesting divine intervention in human affairs." My definition is along the same lines, and thus, I don't think we can call any old blessing a miracle without being either sarcastic or over dramatic. The man in the picture defies gravity, which is pretty extraordinary. Me passing an exam I didn't study for is certainly awesome, but not extraordinary and hence not a miracle.
