In Jn 6:16-21 Jesus sent his disciples across the lake without him. As the winds began to blow the disciples became afraid and wondered where Jesus was. Having rowed several miles they saw Jesus walking on water toward them. "They were frightened, but he told them, 'It is I; do not be afraid'." When they saw him out on the water they wanted to bring him into the boat so they would no longer be afraid but all of a sudden their boat ran aground.
How do you think Jesus is testing us now to become his followers and believe in the Kingdom of God? What miracles have you witnessed and thought that God or Jesus were present in that moment?
US Airways Flight 1549 Crash Lands in Hudson River
I belive that Jesus tests us throughout the course of our everyday life, sometimes without us even knowning it. I think these tests are supposed to reaffirm our faith in God, and when these test turn out for the better, help us to reailze the prescence of God i our lives through everyday miracles.
ReplyDeleteOne example of an everyday miracle happened to me today. Our flight coming onto Chicago was delayed for five hours, while this might have looked like something bad at first, it allowed me and my dad to have a great talk and connect in a way we have ont in a while. I think we need to realize the presence of God in our lives through things like at. You never know when you are going to find God, but you can't find him if you aren't looking.
Hey Mr.Penna I posted the youtube video before my account was working so yea! I thought that the music video was perfect for our chapters and like william said it shows how God truly is present in our lives, whether we know it or not. And he is not always in the form that we might be looking for him as, or as some big thing. God is present in our everyday lives in all things and people and I just thought that this video was relevant to the Kingdom of God.
ReplyDeleteI have been asked the question when has God been present in your life, and I always find myself thinking of the same moment. In the fall of my freshman year my grandfather passed away. This was an event that shook the foundations of everyone in my family, most heavily on my grandmother. When we returned home, we had a family dinner on the porch and we noticed this incredible sunset. We walked out to look at it, and then heard a noise behind us. My 84 year old grandmother had walked out to join us. As we all looked at the spectacle I knew God was with us, and we were going to be all right.
ReplyDelete"Tragedy" is able to be translated in several ways: "Undeserved suffering," "Test of faith," and "God getting his kicks" immediately come to mind, yet a fourth option, "Here I am," stands as a whisper in a sea of shouts--quiet, lonely, yet still present. God does not withdraw his helping hand from victims of violence, natural disasters, disease--rather, he extends it, inviting individuals to discover the potential they possess, strength allowed to surface only in the face of adversity. "The big man upstairs" is the label most commonly used to define the Lord in one sentence or less. However, through experience, I've learned that such a title is misleading. God cannot be found seated in the sky, pressing buttons that cause this that and the other thing to happen to us--rather, God is the words of a friend as they build you up while the rest of the world tries to tear you down; God is a note out of nowhere assuring you that yes, everything WILL be allright; God is the arms of another as they shelter you; God is not one of us, God is ALL of us.
